Local Businesses Need to Improve With Web Based Marketing
by admin on Aug.17, 2009, under General
While most large, locally based service companies have a rudimentary understanding of the potential value of marketing using the web, many smaller service providers are barely online at all. There are even some small, service businesses that don’t use the Internet at all.
I want to concentrate this article on those small service businesses whose online presence is clearly underutilized. If you business is dedicated to providing your community with professional plumbing services, reliable heating system and air conditioning repair or hair care, do you simply rely upon a classified listing on an advertising site to bring your enterprise to the attention of the ever growing community of web users?
Increasingly your potential customers are turning away from print advertising media and using the Internet to locate services when the need suddenly arises, when they move into your community or when they move into their first homes. Do you really believe that a small, classified listing which lists your phone number and address is sufficient information about your business for them to make an informed decision? A building trades company could promote online very well in the same way that a large business does.
A first step is to create your own business’s website.
Establish your professionalism in the minds of your site’s visitors by publishing informating articles on your website. The focus of those articles should be related to the services you offer. If you offer plumbing services, you might write about how to keep drains running smoothly. A hair salon website could have articles about the latest trends in hair styles. Someone who runs a child care center could post parenting tips.
Create an email distributed newsletter, and encourage your site’s visitors as well as your current customers to register for it. The purpose of the newsletter is to develop a continuing relationship with your customers and prospects as much as it is to promote your business. Mostly send informative emails, rather than focussing entirely upon self-promotion. If you keep your blatant advertising messages, such as a coupon, infrequent, they will become more powerful.
Develop ways to promote your website, itself, so that it is displayed near the top of the search engine results for relevant searches in your community. The mere existance of a website is not enough. You need people in your community to find it. One very effective way to promote a website is through a process called article marketing. You can write your own articles or you can hire others to write them for you quite inexpensively.
Some businesses prefer to start their Internet presence on a limited scale and build it larger over time using some or all of the increased revenues. You’ll be surprised what a difference you will experience in the long run.

Getting the Most from Your Restaurant Website
by admin on Jul.18, 2009, under General
If you run a dining establishment, you probably already have your own website. However, have you ever considered whether you are you taking advantage of it to its full potential? Consider some of these ideas, if you don’t already have them in place.
Make certain that your advertising works together: The online world is rather inexpensive once you have your website planned, built and published. Therefore, it is a good idea to use your other, more expensive, forms of advertising in a way that complements your restaurant’s website. Feature your web address in all of your radio, television and print ads. Make sure that the website address is also added to your business cards. Think how much your website can say about your dining establishment when you compare it to a thirty second TV ad, a quarter page in the newspaper or even a massive billboard.
Menu display: Be sure to include your full menu, and update it online whenever it changes in the restaurant. Make sure the design makes it easy to update with your daily specials. The design should also reflect the style of the dining experience. If you operate a diner, don’t use a formal looking background on your menu page. On the other hand, if your restaurant is known for an elegant setting, the appearance of your web menu should reflect that.
Display attractive images: Pictures of the food are fine for cookbooks and frozen dinner boxes, but you want your food to sell itself as your guests eat it. To attract the eyes of your website visitors, you need to show real human beings enjoying their meals and the dining experience. Be certain that the images show all of the kinds of people you want as customers, reflecting the racial, ethnic and social diversity of your community.
Build an email address database: Request the email addresses of people visiting your web pages and allow your customers in your restaurant to add their primary email contact information as they pay. Use regular email marketing to announce new menu items, offer special coupons or other enticements. You might email a secret word of the week. If they whisper that word to their waitress they receive a free dessert with their dinner or a courtesy visit from the chef.
By all means encourage and display testimonials: While a great restaurant review from the local newspaper{ or local magazine} is wonderful, most folks like to see what non-journalists have to say. You may choose to put these on a separate page, but additionally intersperse a few of the more literate comments on each page of your site.
All service providers need repeat customers. To encourage them to return, you want them to feel a connection with you. Knowing how to use your service business Internet presence can take you a long way in developing that relationship with your diners.
