Internet Is a Great Equalizer: Small Businesses Can Directly Compete with Huge Corporations
by admin on Nov.29, 2009, under General
I just finished watching the news and got another extraordinarily severe detail of the state of the US economy. The September unemployment number (9.8%) had just been released, which translates into more than 15 million folks now out of work.
Not just that, but the reporter also explained that the US had just lost its proposal for the 2016 Olympic Games (and the countless dollars that would’ve been invested in new construction and other preparations for the varied Olympic platforms and quarters for the millions of millions of visitors, i.e., job roles for North Americans).
Consequently, instead of viewing the Olympic Games from Chicago, we’ll need to observe them via Rio de Janeiro.
I also heard Rep. Alan Grayson point out statistical data from a Harvard study finding that 44,789 US citizens die each year because they lack correct medical care – and that translates into 122 Americans dying each day because they don’t have health coverage.
So what’s the average Yank to do? Particularly those 15,000,000 unemployed Americans?
I recommend that instead of simply lounging around bemoaning the situation, or increasingly becoming frustrated as they continue their fruitless job searches, many of these folk should create their own Internet firms.
When I invest in the market, one of the factors I look for are firms that have ‘big moats’ – meaning they have such a robust lead on their industry or market (through proprietary technology or other competitive advantage) that it is extremely difficult for others to enter into that marketplace and compete with them.
The web isn’t like that – it has almost no ‘moat,’ meaning there aren’t many entry barriers.
About any one with a P.C. and access to the Net can create an internet business because the net offers a level playing field (i.e, even the smallest business can confront the very biggest corporations ). This is true whether you are a young person just out of college (or never even went to college) to the Boomers and Pre-Boomers who are either pondering retirement, or have already retired.
‘Learning’ seemss to be the only real moat that there is when it comes to beginning a web organization. The good thing about having a moat that is comprised primarily of knowledge – is that any one can easily cross that moat – simply by being interested enough to obtain the skills of the field.
Affiliate marketing programs are probably the simplest ways to begin an internet company, and many of them also provide training per the product that you will be marketing for them.
The issue with the majority of online businesses, however, is that their training is bounded, and typically focused only on instructing you regarding their product (s). Unfortunately, you’ll require more data than that.
One superb starting place for securing all the rest of the knowledge about internet marketing that you’ll need is to sign up for the Online Success for Beginners classes.
