Remote Working Part 1 – Introduction
by admin on Sep.10, 2009, under General
Obviously not everyone is able to work remotely as many jobs require us to go to their office or travel to perform their tasks in person. But for those of us who are able to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share what I have learned and give some practical guidance by distributing it on the web in the hope that I could give others useful ways for adapting to remote working or supervising remote workers.
I would caution you that there are groups of people on the web who will try and get you to buy information for big sums of cash, take my word for it you don’t have to do this.
I am privileged to be permitted to work wherever I choose and just about everybody who asks me what I do for a living wants to learn how I am able to work remotely. Don’t get the wrong idea I am still improving the art of remote working as all of the time I find people on the net who teach me new knowledge and I am always discovering new software and approaches that make my life easier and make me more effective.
During the past seven years I have significantly adapted my working methods to enable me to do the whole of my work remotely with a box of web tools and robust self discipline. One day whilst surfing the web I found Quickbooks online and this opened my eyes to what just might be possible. The discovery of ’hosted’ ‘on demand’ small business accounting software was a pivotal moment for me and the beginning of my ‘remote working journey’.
I want to inform you up front that productively working remotely is as much about the software as it is about self management. Working remotely also means imparting to your co-workers, superiors and clients as to what they can expect and how they will stay in touch with you.
In ‘Remote Working Part 2 – Why self discipline is important’ I talk about how to focus.

A Commonsense Approach to Increasing Your Internet Business
by admin on Jul.06, 2009, under General
When you are just starting out online, the marketing aspect of your business might be daunting. Without spending a lot of cash on advertising, you can do some things to make some money and earn a reputation.
There are some things that you can do beyond article marketing and getting backlinks to pull traffic and buyers to your site. Here are five strategies which you can apply to keep your business alive.
TIP 1 – DO NOT BE AFRAID TO CONTACT REAL PEOPLE THAT YOU KNOW OUTSIDE THE INTERNET.
We all have contacts that we have in the “non Internet” world. These include current and past clients, family members, old co-workers and so forth. Get in touch and give them an informal update about your business and online presence. Nowadays, this can be very easy if you have a lot of family and friends on Facebook. Convince them to visit your website and then periodically let them know of any updates. Ask for their opinions. They are more likely to endorse you if they understand what you do. Since they already know you, they already have some trust and may turn into paying customers.
TIP 2 – FOCUS ON TARGETED TRAFFIC.
You can have all the traffic in the world, but if it is just junk web traffic with a bunch a visitors who are not truly interested in your particular market, those visitors will not translate into paid customers. You should spend time finding ways to connect with your target audience.
Check out the business directories at your local library which will give you some insight into industries that may be interested in your services. You can sort out different types of companies based on their size, location and so on.
The next step would be to contact them in an informal manner. Send them a letter — yes, with postage and all — letting them know about your services and your website. Send a reminder occasionally.
TIP 3 – GIVE THEM SOMETHING AT NO CHARGE.
Once your prospects visit your site, it’s important that you get their contact details so that you can follow up with them. An easy way to do this is to get them to subscribe to your weekly newsletter or e-zine.
Uphold your promise by delivering newsletters that have good content. This will convince them that you are trustworthy and genuine. Then, it’s up to you to convert them into customers.
Another thing you can do is to give a trial membership to your website or perhaps a free report that offers some valuable tips. With both of these methods, you can capture the email addresses and continue to follow up with your potential customers.
TIP 4 – ESTABLISH YOURSELF AS AN EXPERT.
Become known as a knowledgeable person in your field. To accomplish this, you need to make a name for yourself. This can be done through a number of methods.
You could form alliances with other like-minded companies, write articles for other publications and include your resource box, attend important conferences and network with the participants, etc. Another way to establish yourself as an expert is to speak at events or seminars. Your local newspaper might be interested in printing a column for you. Keep giving your contacts free and useful information. This is an excellent way to boost your targeted traffic and ultimately, your sales.
TIP 5 – GET HELP WHEN IT IS NEEDED.
Stay in control of your business by hiring some help. Contract with assistants, accountants, coaches or other professionals to take care of your needs. Hire on a contractor basis only if you feel you need them. If you hire fulltime employees that you may not need, you might be burdened with the cost of regulations and benefits.
CONCLUSION.
In using these offline techniques, you may find that you have gained customers and a healthy dose of prospects. While these methods are not automated and cannot be accomplished with a few mouse clicks, they will yield long term business relationships.
Beyond these tips, there are some fantastic online marketing tools as well that are frequently discussed at Not Guru. You’ll love the price of the #1 recommended tutorial: You get 12 weeks of hard core Internet marketing help absolutely free.

Challenge and Rewards of Your Own Business
by admin on Jun.05, 2009, under General
You may believe that setting a working from home opportunity up from scratch is a daunting task, because you feel like an island in the centre of a shark infested ocean without the motivation or persuasion from your 9-5 routine and co-workers. However, it is the idealtime to achieve everything you want in life using goal setting tools.
Even that can be formidable if you have never been involved in personal or professional goal setting before. Motivation at work came as you were subject to goals that were set by your bosses, but they were their objectives not yours. I promise you setting personal goals can be fun, when you understand the goal setting process. Really it is management by objectives and will raise your self-esteem.
Your first goal could well be to establish self-esteem affirmations to take your home based opportunity to such a level that you can give up your full time job to work from home. Let me eliminate one fantasy for you, earning from your home based opportunity does not involve a management assessment. Even if your earnings is termed commission it is more reliable than the salary you got from your job. Why do I say that? Commission is generated totally by your efforts and nobody can terminate you or make you redundant except you, unlike your job when you are always at the mercy of someone else? Also the level of compensation you generate is entirely from the effort you put in, not what someone thinks they can get away with paying you. If you think differently
DO NOT GO INTO OPPORTUNITY FOR YOURSELF.
This step is the most difficult. Take an unemotional look at the business you are establishing by using needs theory not motivational theories. Why is it problematic, well it is always problematic to go through a reasonable goal setting process of your prospective business, for if you are not filled with the excitement and expectancy from building your new business, I suggest you look at the phrase in capital letters above? Be business like not unrealistic, positive not negative. Establish where you want to be, say, next year at this time using SMART goal setting tools.
When you determine that, working out how to get there is easier.
Too many make the error of looking at where they are at this time and building forward by forecasting how much they can succeed in doing each day, that my friends never works. Instead work from the end result, for illustration let us look at needs theory; if you want to bring home $3,000 per month and your sale item generates $40. How many itmes must you sell and how visitors to your site have to see your proposition to make that $3,000. Well the sales are easy you need to sell 75 items to hit your $ marker but generating people to see your proposition is a different kettle of fish. If 1.1% (the industry average) that see your proposal buy from you, then you would need to generate 6818 visitors to your site every month. You see $3,000 is not your goal 224 visitors a day to your site is your target, that is management by objectives. Professional goal setting will raise confidence and create a clear path to where you want to be.
opportunity] you start with the end in mind and work from there.
Working for yourself is highly rewarding
