Leading Affiliates Through Your Internet Marketing Website

If you are just starting an affiliate program, you need to find affiliates. You have a website summarizing the terms and conditions of your program and an application. Even if you use a third-party affiliate hosting program, you still need to lead potential affiliates to your website. Yes, it is important to concentrate on selling them. You need to convince them that your program is the best to join. First, focus on getting them there. What are your alternatives?

Article directories. Article directories are popular and they do show results. Website owners have been using them as internet marketing tactics for years. Moreover, other websites and blogs use your articles. All facts, including links back to your affiliate program website stay. Within weeks, you will find this information scattered around the web. Article directories work by linking back to your website. Before submitting an article, check your links. Ensure they do lead back to the correct spot.

When utilizing article directories, you have two main options. You want to target internet users who want to get behind a good product or service, like what you have to offer. You also want to target experienced website owners and bloggers who are looking for another way to increase their income. You can write articles about the products or services you sell. Make a review and at the end of your article state that readers can make money through promoting. For those who want to make money online, write generalized articles about affiliate programs. Cover topics that include what they are, how they work, and how everyone makes money. At the ending of each article, give a link back to your affiliate program website.

Online classified ads. When looking for jobs, many individuals bypass the printed employment sections and opt to find the same information online. This is where the greatest potential is. When choosing online classified websites, opt for those with free or reduced rates. Clearly highlight your program. There is some confusion. Many classified websites have strict rules on pyramid schemes. If you are just paying your affiliates each time they help you generate a sale, no strings attached, you should not have problems.

When using online classified ads, it is important to explain your opportunity in detail. Not everybody knows what affiliate programs are. If your listing says, “earn 5% commission,” most readers will actually think that is in addition to an hourly rate. It is not. Completely explain your affiliate program, the tasks required to generate money, and the payment terms. Remove confusion and discard applicants right from the start.

Job posting websites or forums for home-based workers. Many people want to work from home. That has direct to an influx of work-at-home job posting websites and message boards. Visit these websites and look around. Can you post listings for affiliate programs? If so, do it! These individuals have already decided they want to work from home. Your opportunity allows them to do that.

When posting information about your affiliate program and linking back to your website, give as many information as possible. As previously stated, these individuals want to work from home and most have done research already. They must know that an affiliate program is based on sales and commission only, not an hourly rate. Still, provide as much information as possible. Work-at-home job and opportunity listings seem less like a scam when they go into great detail.

Online message boards. When it comes to online message boards, choose those that are based on running websites or blogs, internet marketing, or working from home. These individuals can give your affiliate program the most time. Many are also educated on running a website, marketing, and ad placement.

When highlighting your paid affiliate program opportunity and linking back to your website on a message board, read all rules first. Some only allow you to advertise job opportunities in specific sections. Never spam the boards. Next, utilize profile links and signatures. Anywhere you can put a link without breaking the forum rules, do it. The key to leading potential affiliates to your website is to post and often. The more messages you post on a forum, the more your links will show.

In conclusion, there are many ways that you can lead potential affiliates to your program website. In fact, these are just a few of your options. Overtime, you will see that idle talk works great. When your affiliates start making money, they will discuss the opportunity with others. Soon, you won’t need to lead applicants to your website, as they will find it on their own.

Increase Leverage for Your Home Business by Outsourcing

The objective of leverage is to gain the biggest advantage with the least possible effort.  Especially, for us, that means maximum ROI with least personal involvement, and we can accomplish this via outsourcing.

Prior articles discussed gaining leverage by 1) re-using, and 2) re-purposing content.  In this article, we’ll focus on developing leverage by outsourcing recurring, or non-value-add work, and any work that simply doesn’t fit our personal skills, experience and/or character.

Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman documented some interesting findings from more than 25 years of research by the Gallup organization – initially in their book, First, Break All the Rules: What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently, and subsequently elaborating on those findings in later books.  Two of their findings, that are important for online marketers and home-based business owners in general are these:  1) Improve your positives, not your weaknesses, and 2) Acquire assistants for ability.

Online business has a large learning curve and requires many different skills.  But, not very many people are talented in all of those skills – and even those who multi-skilled, may not be using their available energy and other skills when they focus on their weaknesses.

William of Occam, noted for “Occam’s Razor,” has noted:  “It is vain to do with more what can be done with less.” As small business owners, this has a big lesson for us in terms of our own time usage.

Tim Ferriss, author of “The 4-Hour Workweek” is a major proponent of outsourcing to virtual assistants to handle recurrent, low prioritiy activities or other non-favored tasks.

It may come as a surprise to realize that outsourcing is not limited to giant businesses, but recognizing the low cost of international VAs, even small, home-based organizations can afford to delegate a lot of tasks to VAs.

One task that many internet marketers choose to outsource is writing articles.  Many see the value of writing articles, but either can’t write well, or simply don’t want to write, so they delegate article authoring to freelancers. 

Another task you might consider outsourcing to a virtual assistant (or call center) is the telephone and email follow-up required for lead generation and sales closings.

If you focus on your areas of strength, you gain the benefits of leverage and multiply your results, whereas, focusing on your weaknesses willonly marginally improve your results.

Add Leverage for Your Online Business by Re-Using Content

According to Wikipedia, leverage is “A force compounded by means of a lever rotating around a pivot” and “By extension, any influence which is compounded or used to gain an advantage.”  The latter part of that definition has the most applicability for affiliate businesses.

Leverage is frequently defined in either fiscal or mechanical terms, but it has much broader application to a lot of contexts, including the internet marketing industry.

So how can we interpret the term “any influence” for our home-based businesses?

One of the best ways for an online business to gain the advantage of leverage is by re-using available content.  I’m sure you’ve seen the countless ebooks currently advertised on the internet – most of these are examples of re-using content, although some may have been originally written as ebooks, most started out as a single blog post, or a response to a customer email, perhaps even some Frequently Asked Questions.

Financially, the advantage gained from leverage is typically expressed as a ratio of some sort, for example, a debt-to-equity ratio.  Such ratios are useful for bookkeepers, but that is not the audience I’m addressing here.

How can we calculate the leverage advantage to be gained from re-using our existing content?  Consider the following simplistic example:   Assume you could write a single document for one customer in ten hours and then sell it for $50.00.  You have earned $50.00, but it would have taken you 10 hours to acquire that $50.00; in other words, you have earned about $5 per hour (less than the current minimum wage) for your time but you would not have made any profit on that sale. 

Assume, however, you take that same document (modified to remove any non-generic) and offer it as an ebook to the marketplace for $19.95, and that you ultimately sell 100 copies of your new ebook.  You would have earned $1995, less the $50 it cost to develop the initial manuscript less another $5 to customize it for any customer/proprietary info, leaving you now with a profit of $1940.00.

This example describes the power of leverage, specifically the benefit gained from re-using existing content. 

Once we become familiar with leverage, we discover that there are many different ways to apply it to our affiliate businesses.  This article addressed only re-use of content, but there are many other ways.  Further articles will discuss other ways that home businesses can apply other types of leverage.

Achieve Leverage for Your Home Business by Re-Purposing Your Content

According to the Wikipedia dictionary, leverage is “A force compounded by means of a lever rotating around a pivot” and “By extension, any influence which is compounded or used to gain an advantage.”

Most of us were probably first introduced to the concept of leverage as we explored the Teeter-Totter in our schoolyard or at our local recreational area.  Initially, we played only with kids who were the same age – and weight class – and we were entirely content with the relationship of the board and the fulcrum being predetermined.

But, as we aged and started playing on the teeter-totter with children that were a bit older – and a little, or a lot, heavier – we rapidly discovered that if we could change the location of the weight (thus in effect changing the length of the lever relative to the fulcrum), we could easily lift children who weighed a lot more than we did.

When we merely re-use content, we go for effectively the same market segment and use essentially the same tools and media to reach them.

But, when we re-purpose the content, we change our focus to an alternate market segment, generally for a somewhat different market segment, and we may also modify the media as well. When we re-purpose content, we effectively alter the length of the lever and position of the pivot point.

Many internet marketing businesses sometimes hold live events of one sort or another; e.g., a workshop, seminar, training class, etc.  Best practice suggests that we plan (from the beginning) to re-purpose available content and extend its value to a larger audience.  In the example of the workshop, seminar, training class, etc., it would be a good idea to audiotape and/or videotape the event for subsequent distribution via audio or video files, CDs, DVDs, etc.

Re-purposing extends the benefits of leverage beyond simply re-using existing content – it extends our marketing efforts into additional market niches, thus increasing overall visibility of our products, and thus, increasing the bottom line.

Value of Leverage for Internet Marketers

Leverage is the capability to achieve a big gain from a relatively small investment – whether that investment is time, effort or money.

We typically think of leverage as the mechanical increase that occurs from using a lever.  In fact, Archimedes once said, “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.”

But leverage isn’t restricted to the physical world of mechanical advantage – it applies in a lot of other situations as well.

In the corporate world, organizational development consultants commonly try changing multiple business “levers” to change the organization’s structure or performance. Regrettably, in today’s world, those business levers are often perceived negatively, resulting in job losses, down-sizing, “right-sizing”, or other forms of corporate re-structuring.

But leverage has many helpful connotations as well.

People utilize financial leverage when they use borrowed funds to maximize their ROIs, or when they use calls or puts to control large numbers of stock at a cost far less than outright purchase.

Home based businesses utilize leverage when they work using the Internet.  Simply by being online, they’ve eliminated the boundaries of geography (and largely, time as well) and leveraged their marketing monies, since it costs about the same amount to create an announcement that reaches only a few people as it does to produce an ad that is global.

If we were operating a small “brick and mortar” store, we might be okay with traffic that numbered in the hundreds, but as an affiliate or internet marketer, we need traffic numbering in the hundreds of thousands, or even millions – and not just any traffic, but targeted traffic.

We are applying leverage when we use automated tools such as Google AdWords:  we use the power and reach of Google to generate targeted traffic for us and deliver to our squeeze page.

The Net provides us with many forms of leverage, but they all essentially boil down to the application of technology. Technology can provide the best leverage.

Many affiliate or internet marketers are familiar with the use of autoresponders and search engines, etc., but they frequently fail to make full use of the technology lever in their back office processes – including everything from lead management to fulfilling the order and monitoring the follow-on billing and customer service issues.

Those home businesses that leverage technology to the max are the ones which will survive in this competitive world.
