How to sell the knowledge in your business on the net
by admin on Jul.06, 2009, under General
I can 100% prove that using online video to teach new skills is the best way to promote and sell your knowledge (the small business accounting software video above took me about an hour) on the internet. I think everyone with a skill should have the opportunity to sell their knowledge online, se here I am going to walk you through how to turn what you know into digital content and sell it to a worldwide audience. Designing and creating your own product gives you a higher return on your investment, builds your confidence and allows you to refine and tune what you have so as you can sell more.
Online video as popularised by YouTube and Podcasting is central to the method I will share with you for delivering your expertise and knowledge to your target audience. I love these video distribution platforms as they really have helped me sell and build a reputation for my low cost alternative to conventional small business accounting software such as Quickbooks or Peachtree.
The best way to decide what content you are going to include in your video is to start by creating a storyboard that lays out the structure and format of your video(s) content. The best way to create a plan or storyboard for your video is to use a slide making tool like Microsoft powerpoint or Apple Keynote, if you are familiar with these already then you are off to a great start. In case you are wondering how much this is going to cost I should say that you can create your storyboard, produce your video and get it to your target market without spending any money what so ever.
To create your videos I recommend a really good program called Camtasia studio from a company called TechSmith, it will enable you to produce high quality videos for YouTube, Podcasts and download to your customers computer in either QuickTime or Windows media format (don’t download the trial yet, just watch all of the tutorials). As I said don’t download the Camtasia software yet as you want to maximise your use of the thirty day trial to get your idea fleshed out and be familiar with the tools.
I will be sending another article to this blog in the next day or so (owner permitting) where I walk through in detail (and at no cost) how to create a detailed storyboard using some of my small business accounting software videos as real live examples, but first you must go and study the tools I have discussed here.
