Can you profit from affiliate marketing?

As marketers we all want to profit on the Internet. Affiliate marketing is possible the simplest method around to start making money on the Internet. If you think fat affiliate checks will roll in, without doing anything, after you have signed up for all affiliate programs you are mistaken can find!

Money and time are required to succeed online. You cannot prosper on the Internet without spending time and money.

Affiliate marketing – what is that? You bring the vendor visitors that buy and the vendor share the profit with you, sometimes up to 75%. The vendor share the profit with you. According to most affiliate programs they give you a unique link and tell you to promote this link in as many places as possible. 1-2% conversion rate mean that max 2 out of 100 buys, while 98 will click away from the vendors site.

A better strategy for affiliate marketing is to collect the name and email address for all visitors. The squeeze page should effectively sell your free report or you will loose the visitor who clicks away. By offering a report or something else considered of value some will give their name and email. In exchange for their name and email adress they get an ebook, report or similar – the “listbait”. In this manner we build a list of prospects that we can send information until they “buy or die”, i they purchase the initial offer or something else, or they unsubscribe from the list.

The visitors become subscribers by giving their name and email on the squeeze page. They are double opt-in becauwse they must verify their email to receive the “listbait”. The vendor links can now be promoted to the list as it is a double opt-in email list. This strategy is used by most successful affiliate merketers today. This is the two-step marketing model, and it is much more effective than directly promoting the vendors link. In the two-step model we first give the visitor something of value – we have done her/him a favour and does not stand out as agressive marketers. We are rather giving free advice to the visitor through the report offered. When you at a later stage promote an offer for these people some of them will feel obliged to try it out and you make sales!

As can be seen from the outline above, affiliate marketing can bring in more money in a consistent manner if a two step model is used. To automate the process use an autoresponder. The autoresponder will be discussed in the next article in the series.
